GLUCONEOGENESIS

"Training without nutrition is like having a ferrrari and not putting gas in it"

Gluconeogenesis, the forgotten route. What is Gluconeogenesis? It is an anabolic route (creates) and occurs in the liver, is responsible for maintaining stable blood glucose in a shortage of food (4-5 or more hours without eating) or a lot of sustained activity. As a substrate to create glucose, it uses accumulated fat (glycerol and triglycerides go to tissues that can use it as energy), lactate, pyruvate, amino acids, and other intermediates. It is key that this route is active at a certain time, since it is key to be able to maintain glycaemia for dependent tissues such as brain, nervous tissue, red blood cells, retina. The problem is that it is usually recommended to eat every 2-3 hours, suppressing their activity, since there is exogenous glucose (food) and you do not need to create, which does not mean that it is not healthy, but, is it not great to be able to reach or use your own stored fat as energy? I think it is and quite efficient and healthy. Many people use to eat very often have a bad time (dizziness, weakness) when there is no food available during a certain time or physical activity, since not using this route for a long time is not very efficient. It is recommended to activate it, along with the AMPK pathway, even in pathologies such as type 2 diabetes, hyperglycaemia caused by poor diet, insulin resistance, contributes a lot to the improvement. How? Leaving more space between meals, not eating as often, using sweeteners (0 cal) and drinks (0 cal as coffe or tea) between meals and letting the body get used to produce glucose from the reserves we have, such as adipose tissue (fat), we have more than 40,000 calories in fat and more in overweight subjects. @amrappharma Sources: https://buff.ly/2Fdhqat https://buff.ly/2WCvbYt .
